Want To Make Plant-Based Easier?
Stop Trying To Get It Right
MY NAME IS NOLAN & THIS IS JESSICA—WE RUN DOING PLANT BASED
Back in 2019, I'm at the gym playing Brazilian jiujitsu (BJJ) when I notice something strange: skipping meat for just one day gave me almost superhuman stamina the next. That feeling? I wanted it every day.
So I decided to give plant-based another shot.
I had two complete failures under my belt from 20 years earlier, and plenty of on-again, off-again healthy eating experiments in between. Every time, I’d start strong, fall off and blame myself.
This time, I set myself a realistic goal: plant-based by December 31st 2020. I gave myself over a year because I wanted this change to be permanent, and I knew that to succeed, I needed a completely different approach.
I needed to understand the habits I'd need to change or develop along the way. What did I fear about the transition? What happens when motivation abandons me? What would keep me going when real life hit?
And what would my before-and-after actually look like?
After weeks of research, all I could come come up with was:
None of This Was Helpful At All
So I stepped back and applied knowledge from my background in sales and corporate training, drawing lessons from experts who weren’t talking about food at all.
This was a complete shot in the dark.
I realized something crucial: I wasn’t failing at plant-based eating—I was just practicing a new skill.
I began connecting quality information with simple behaviors that were as easy as—or easier than—what I was already doing. Soon after, I had a major breakthrough: plant-based eating isn’t about perfection or willpower—it’s about rhythm.
Jessica made some small changes around our home to support this new approach, and barely six months later, I’d hit my goal.
It didn’t have to be this hard.
Doing Plant Based is built on one core idea: You're not failing—you're just practicing
Doing Plant Based shows you how we put it together permanently in less than six months,
and how you can do the same in less than half the time
It teaches plant-based eating as a skill:
- No moral framing
- No performance pressure
- No shame spiral when you mess up
Instead of telling you what to eat, it gives you repeatable rhythms, pattern cues, and fallback rhythms that keep you grounded when real life hits.
I built it because every other approach made me feel like a failure. This one made me feel like I could actually do it.
I’m not selling philosophy. I’m selling a way out.
The Doing Plant Based Method
A rhythm-based skill system for eating without guilt
1. Rhythm Over Rules
Most plans give you rigid rules—and you either follow them perfectly or “fail”. We teach rhythm: small, repeatable patterns that flex with real life and never require starting over.
“You don’t break rhythm. You just pick it back up.”
2. Guilt Has No Place Here
Other systems motivate through shame.
- "You should care more about the animals and environment"
- "You should be stronger, leaner, better"
DPB strips all that away. You’re not being judged. You’re just practicing.
“You’re not a bad person. You’re a person learning a skill.”
3. Repeatable Wins Build Real Momentum
We don’t chase willpower or hacks. We teach simple moves you can return to—again and again—so momentum becomes muscle memory.
“No more decision fatigue. Just patterns that work.”
4. Built for Burnouts, Beginners, and Real Life
You don’t need a new identity. You need a system that doesn’t collapse when you get sick, stressed, or travel. DPB is designed to withstand chaos—not pretend it won’t happen.
“Even on your worst day, this still works.”
Real Life, Real Results
When we're not working on the Doing Plant Based, we're at our day jobs full-time.
I work with corporate grocery stores. Jessica manages a tattoo shop.
In our downtime time I play BJJ (sometimes with Jessica!) She's a lifelong dancer and retired rhythmic gymnast. We enjoy travel to big cities like Seoul, Mexico City, Los Angeles & Tokyo.
Plant-based eating hasn’t disrupted any of that. It’s made it easier.
- I have more energy for BJJ
- We’ve found incredible new food in every city
- We eat what we like, don’t feel restricted, and never start over

Fast Facts:
1
Jessica & I have been together for twenty-two years, married for seventeen. We’re best friends who built this method together
2
I'm a member of the Sagkeeng First Nation; Jessica is of German ancestry
3
Jessica was vegetarian when we met (I cooked her a tofu stir fry on one of our first dates), but fell off that wagon for years before we developed this method together
4
Back in the late 2000s the two of us lived in South Korea; Jessica ran a preschool and I worked as an English teacher for preschool to adult students and also dabbled in corporate consulting
5
We moved back home to Canada afterwards and have been on the West Coast (best coast) since then
6
The two of us are Formula 1 and (more recently) MotoGP nuts. Sundays (and now Saturdays with the sprint races) phones are off and we're glued to the TV for a couple of hours
Ready to Stop Starting Over?
If you’ve ever said “I’ll start again Monday”—and meant it—this is where it ends:
Look, you’ve tried to figure this out before.
You’ve read the books. Tried the meal prep. Listened to the podcasts.
You’ve still fallen off. And when you do, you blame yourself.
That’s not failure.
That’s a broken system doing exactly what it was built to do:
Make you feel bad, then sell you another restart.
The 7-Day Kickstart breaks that loop
It’s the DPB Method in action—where principles become practice.
It shows you the skill—not the script, not the guilt trip—and gives you the rhythm that keeps you going.
In one week, you’ll build a rhythm that survives real life:
- The Go-To that works on your worst day
- The 85/15 loop that ends perfection panic
- Anchor foods, snack systems and actual convenience
- Scripts that keep you sane at dinner, work, or the gym
You won’t just eat differently. You’ll learn to think different.
Not guilty. Not stuck. Not “starting again Monday.”
Just Doing Plant Based—for real this time.
One week.
Built to survive your worst day.
Ready?
No more resets. No more guilt. Let’s build the skill.
